Child Success Summary

Understanding the Report

This report has the following sections:

  • Past Performance on PSSA and Keystone Assessments
  • Projections to PSSA and Keystone Assessments
  • Projections to Advanced Placement (AP) Exams
  • Projections to College Benchmarks

Select one of the tabs to view that section of the Student Success Summary.

A Companion Guide is available to explain the various aspects of the report in detail.

Not all students receive all projections. For common reasons a student might not receive a projection in the Child Success Summary, read this list.

Past Performance on PSSA and Keystone Assessments

This section shows the student's past performance on PSSA and Keystone Assessments. Viewing a student's testing history across subjects can be helpful for teachers. However, it's important not to place too much emphasis on comparing individual scores from one year to the next. The data presented here represents snapshots of the student's academic performance each year and should not be interpreted as individual growth.

The table displays the student's scores on prior assessments in state percentiles.

Projections to PSSA and Keystone Assessments

A projection to PSSA and Keystone Assessments is a reliable indicator of a student's likelihood of reaching a future performance level. For state assessments, a projection displays the student's probability of reaching the minimum score for each state performance level (Basic, Proficient, , and Advanced).

Additional projections, not displayed in this report, might be available through other reports within PVAAS. In some instances, a student projection might not be available for a child. For common reasons a child might not receive a projection in the Child Success Summary, see this list.

Projections to Advanced Placement (AP) Exams

For AP Exams commonly administered in Pennsylvania, the report displays the student's probability of scoring at least a 3, 4, or 5. However, a student projection might not always be available. For common reasons a child might not receive a projection in the Child Success Summary, see this list.

Projections to College Benchmarks

Projections to college benchmarks provide information about children's current risk of post-secondary educational success. These minimum ACT, SAT, and PSAT benchmarks are suggestive of achievement in corresponding college courses. The probabilities represent the child's likelihood of scoring at least the indicated college readiness benchmark. For common reasons a child might not receive a projection in the Child Success Summary, see this list.

You can compare this data with national statistics to evaluate each student's college readiness. PVAAS provides probabilities of success for multiple benchmarks. To find more information about benchmarks used for college admissions, follow these steps:

  1. Open the College Navigator page in the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System.
  2. Enter information about the college, and click Show Results.
  3. In the results, click the name of a college.
  4. Expand the Admissions section to find the test scores for the school's recently enrolled students.
