Understanding Measurement Options

Measurement OptionDefinition
Growth

In the diagnostic reports, growth refers to an estimate of the growth that students in a group made, on average, in a grade and subject or course. For more information, see

When the measurement option is set to Growth, the table below the bar chart is color-coded based on how many standard errors that group's growth measure is from the growth standard.

Color Indicator

Growth Measure Compared to the Growth Standard

Interpretation

Light Blue

At least one standard error above

Moderate evidence that the group exceeded the growth standard.

Green

Between one standard error above and one standard error below

Evidence that the group met the growth standard.

Yellow

More than one standard error below

Moderate evidence that the group did not meet the growth standard.

White

N/A

The group did not have enough students to generate a growth measure.

Entering Achievement and Exiting Achievement

Depending on the assessment, achievement is reported in Normal Curve Equivalents (NCEs) or scale scores.

  • Entering achievement is either the average of the students' NCEs from the most recent prior year available or the average of the students' predicted scale scores.
  • Exiting achievement is either the average of the students' current year NCEs or the average of the students' actual scale scores.
For more information, see Understanding Entering Achievement and Exiting Achievement
Percentage of Students Meeting or Exceeding Predicted Score

The percentage of students whose actual scores met or exceeded their predicted scores. These predicted scores are based on the model used for the selected assessment and the students' prior performance. The average schooling experience is based on what was observed in the state in light of the pandemic.

Percentage of Students Reaching Proficiency or HigherThe percentage of students whose actual scores met or exceeded the proficient performance level for the selected assessment.
Percentage of Students Reaching AdvancedThe percentage of students whose actual scores met or exceeded the advanced performance level for the selected assessment.
